All Aboard the Steam Train!

This weekend we had the pleasure of riding in an authentic vintage coach on the steam train in Old Town Sacramento.  When we boarded the train we claimed our spots on cozy red-velvet seats by the windows. By cozy, I mean zero leg room, yet somehow still comfortable.  As the train left the station, a loud "CHOO!" rang out as a gust of steam filled the air around the train.
The locomotive departs from the Frieght Depot on J Street and rolls along the levees of the Sacramento River for a 40-minute ride and a whopping 6-miles--roundtrip!  Along the way, we enjoyed views of the river and the occasional billowing cloud of steam that was released into the air as we crawled down the tracks.  The most exciting part of the ride was when a train gonig the opposite direction passed by us so close that we could nearly reach out and touch it. That's when I got some cool shots of the other train AND some reflections from our trains windows-see below.  And when the ticket checker came around to punch holes in our tickets, I went click-happy.  His jolly character was not surpassed by his obvious pride to be a volunteer and take part of this locomotive's history.  It was a great little family excursion...
